El ex presidente uruguayo y figura de la izquierda latinoamericana Jos\u00e9 Mujica padece un c\u00e1ncer de es\u00f3fago y comenzar\u00e1 a recibir radioterapia la pr\u00f3xima semana en Uruguay en la cl\u00ednica fundada por el fallecido onc\u00f3logo y ex mandatario Tabar\u00e9 V\u00e1zquez.<\/span><\/p>\n

As\u00ed lo inform\u00f3 este jueves en rueda de prensa la m\u00e9dica de cabecera de Mujica, Raquel Pannone, luego de que el lunes el ex mandatario de 88 a\u00f1os revelara que durante un chequeo le hab\u00edan detectado un tumor en el es\u00f3fago con pron\u00f3stico \u00abmuy comprometido\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00abTen\u00edamos la alta sospecha de que fuera un tumor maligno, evidencia que demostr\u00f3 la anatom\u00eda patol\u00f3gica. Pepe tiene un c\u00e1ncer de es\u00f3fago\u00bb, afirm\u00f3 Pannone, quien destac\u00f3 que no hay met\u00e1stasis.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00abEsta lesi\u00f3n est\u00e1 circunscrita al es\u00f3fago, no tiene compromiso en otro territorio\u00bb, subray\u00f3.<\/span><\/p>\n

Pannone explic\u00f3 que dada la edad de Mujica y que ya sufre de vasculitis, una enfermedad autoinmune, y tiene una insuficiencia renal, el mejor tratamiento a seguir es la radioterapia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Aunque el plan de radiaciones a\u00fan debe determinarse, adelant\u00f3 que seguramente reciba sesiones a diario, de cinco a 10 minutos, durante algunas semanas.<\/span><\/p>\n

El tratamiento ser\u00e1 en Montevideo, en el Consultorio de Oncolog\u00eda y Radioterapia (COR), dirigido actualmente por \u00c1lvaro V\u00e1zquez, hijo del ex mandatario.<\/span><\/p>\n

Tabar\u00e9 V\u00e1zquez, quien en 2005 se convirti\u00f3 en el primer presidente de izquierda de Uruguay y cinco a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s entreg\u00f3 el mando a Mujica, falleci\u00f3 de un c\u00e1ncer de pulm\u00f3n en diciembre de 2020, nueve meses despu\u00e9s de completar su segunda presidencia (2015-2020).<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00abDe acuerdo al equipamiento con que hoy cuenta Uruguay estamos en las mismas condiciones para atender esta patolog\u00eda que en otro lugar del mundo\u00bb, indic\u00f3 Pannone, tras agradecer ofertas de atenci\u00f3n en pa\u00edses de Sudam\u00e9rica, Europa y Estados Unidos.<\/span><\/p>\n

La m\u00e9dica personal de Mujica indic\u00f3 que el \u00abobjetivo m\u00e1ximo\u00bb es la \u00abcuraci\u00f3n\u00bb, y el \u00abobjetivo intermedio\u00bb es \u00abuna larga sobrevida y una buena calidad de vida\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mujica est\u00e1 decidido a dar la \u00abbatalla\u00bb, enfatiz\u00f3.<\/span><\/p>\n

El ex mandatario, que se alz\u00f3 contra gobiernos democr\u00e1ticos en los a\u00f1os 1960 y 1970 y estuvo 12 a\u00f1os preso, la mayor parte durante la dictadura c\u00edvico-militar (1973-1985), cuenta con el apoyo de su esposa, Luc\u00eda Topolansky, una ex guerrillera como \u00e9l y ex vicepresidenta de Uruguay (2017-2020).<\/span><\/p>\n
