14pt;\">\u201cEl tr\u00e1fico de buques mercantes (&#8230;) disminuy\u00f3 en casi 30 por ciento\u201d, indic\u00f3 Jihad Azour, director del departamento de Medio Oriente y Asia Central del FMI, destacando que \u201cla ca\u00edda del comercio se aceler\u00f3 a principios de este a\u00f1o\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Seg\u00fan la plataforma PortWatch del FMI, el volumen de tr\u00e1nsito por el Canal de Suez, que conecta el mar Rojo con el Mediterr\u00e1neo, se contrajo 37 por ciento entre el 1 y el 16 de enero de 2024 en comparaci\u00f3n con el mismo periodo del a\u00f1o anterior.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Desde el 19 de noviembre, los rebeldes hut\u00edes, que controlan grandes partes de Yemen, han llevado a cabo m\u00e1s de 35 ataques contra barcos en el mar Rojo y en el golfo de Ad\u00e9n, seg\u00fan el Departamento de Defensa de Estados Unidos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Esto ha provocado una interrupci\u00f3n del tr\u00e1fico mar\u00edtimo en esta zona crucial, por donde pasa hasta 12 por ciento del comercio mundial.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">El mar Rojo es tambi\u00e9n vital para el comercio en la Uni\u00f3n Europea (UE) y la semana pasada el comisario europeo de Comercio, Valdis Dombrovskis, indic\u00f3 que el tr\u00e1fico a trav\u00e9s de ese mar hab\u00eda ca\u00eddo 22 por ciento en un mes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Los rebeldes hut\u00edes, apoyados por Ir\u00e1n, dicen querer evitar que barcos vinculados a Israel naveguen frente a las costas de Yemen, \u201cen solidaridad\u201d con los palestinos de la Franja de Gaza, azotada por la guerra entre Israel y Ham\u00e1s que empez\u00f3 el 7 de octubre.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Sus ataques han obligado a muchos armadores a evitar el sector y a tener que bordear \u00c1frica para cubrir las rutas entre Asia y Europa, con el correspondiente aumento del costo del transporte y de los tiempos de entrega.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">En respuesta, Estados Unidos y el Reino Unido han lanzado varios
